Jordan Snow
Welcome,
My name is Jordan Snow. I’m a sculptor located in Utah. The act of creating has followed me from my youth. I grew up in a domain where the unique ability to believe in everything was possible. The myths others were raised to brush off as fictitious had a realness to them in the wild landscape of my childhood. Inspiration was a limitless resource. With my paper and pencil in hand, I could often be found recreating the magic of that world around me with my illustrations. A habit that evolved with me, from the paintings of my adolescence to the three-dimensional, direct-carving works that you will find here. The searching that has powered my art continues to influence me. When I am mine own enemy the stone I work with becomes a vortex in which I am both human, and everything else!
In keeping with my humanity, I look to nature as my teacher. I look to William Blake, Marcel Duchamp — The big daddy Michelangelo! — and the other prophets, as my teachers. I look and I wish to see more! My work is about finding something with myself, rather than what’s in the blocks of rock. If we look elsewhere, we’re simply tourists. The grounding quality of surprise and captivation that imagination can nourish within people, that I have found true to my life, is precisely why I sculpt.
